Jeannie Jones has been gracing the air waves of Washington D.C. for over a decade on both WPGC and currently WKYS. The DC native who grew up in NE by East Capitol and Benning Rd is absolutely proud of her DC roots. She is a graduated of the Academy of Notre Dame and University of Maryland.
To her fans she is known as the “Kitty of the City.” If you are like most people you probably wondering what was the inspiration of the name. When asked the question Jeannie responded, “The name “kitty of the city was inspired by my cat (Maxwell). I a lot of people have cat symbols and meow but when I started doing it on radio and television it just took on a life of its own.” Many of us are also familiar with her “MEOW” calls which is she explains in a recent interview with Elite DC (former Sexy DC), “It’s just empowerment; everything about it is a feel good or a positive from something meaning extremely sexy to someone telling me everything is going well and we automatically meow.”
Jeannie invests a lot of her time to her My Wish Foundation. She explains the importance of the foundation, “The foundation is pulse for everything I do in my multimedia career. It really blossomed from the Jeannie Jones mentoring programs. I mentor students from elementary to college. The Grant My Foundation provides scholarships and life enriching opportunities in the performing arts and sports.” Jeannie says her biggest accomplishment thus far is her work in the community as an activist. “To be able to have the power to motivate people to help others when hope looks so bleak and dark.”
It is hard for anyone to find to relax; therefore, it must be extremely hard for someone with a busy schedule like Jeannie to find personal time. We asked Jeannie what she enjoyed doing in her free time, “I love listening to all genre of music. I enjoy working out. I love going to museums. I love to horse back ride. I enjoy hiking. I love watching old movies, black and white movies as well.
It is obvious that Jeannie Jones loves her native city. She tells us why she loves DC, “I my city DC most of all because we are one been melting pot that has the ability to be open minded, conservative when we need to. At the same time we are SEXY, we are progressive and we know what we want and that’s why everyone is buying real estate here.”
